NYE 2008

I can't believe that I haven't blogged about our New Years Eve yet...you know sometimes life getting in the way of blogging. Some friends of ours, the James', talked us into going to see the fireworks over the harbor. Since they do family fireworks at 9:00 we decided to go check them out and then head home. Of course we didn't venture into the city with all of our kids, just on the other side at a park in Greenwich. We actually ended up having a pretty good view of the backside of the bridge and an even better view of one of the barges where they were being shot from on the harbor. The kids had a good time sitting around eating KFC and ice cream with their friends and we definitely enjoyed the company.

Kev took charge of the camera to try and take some pictures of the fireworks - he got this really good shot (but that is about it, fireworks are hard to capture after all - maybe next year). Rylee hated the fireworks and spent the entire time with her head laying on my shoulder hiding her face. Madi however wasn't bothered by the sound at all - maybe we have turned a corner in her fright of loud noises.

After the family fireworks we all packed up and walked back to our cars then we headed home and put the kids to bed. We were all exhausted from our trip to Port Stephens. Kevin and I did catch the midnight fireworks on TV - although Kev kept falling asleep. We are totally going to try and get a babysitter and head into the city next year to see the fireworks just to say we have done it.

That photo is great Kev - sounds like you had an awesome NYE - my brother but a firecracker in his ear and it exploded and caught his hair alight. That was the extent of the fireworks for us!

Yeah, there's really no excuse for spending NYE in Sydney and NOT watch the fireworks at least once. We watched the whole thing when we were there. First we thought we'd just watch the family one, but Adiel (then 5) insisted that we stay for the midnight ones too. Erno (then 2) didn't enjoy them much and even this year he said he's afraid of the fireworks. Funny, since usually Adiel's the one afraid of anything to do with the fire.

It's funny we've never ventured into the city for the fire works on NYE, although I did in 1988 and even then it was crazy trying to get home on the trains. I just don't enjoy the crowds, maybe we'll have to find your vantage point for the next NYE and catch the 9pm ones with the kids. Cool photo.

We weren't really in the city, too crowded for us too. We watched them from Clarke's point and the view was very good and it wasn't too crowded. We even managed to drive home pretty quickly too. We were so glad we watched them, 'cause they were spectacular. Unlike anything I've ever seen before.

NYE is Sydney is the BEST! I was there for 99-00 and it was amazing. NYE is just better when it's warm (in my opinion). Every year we look forward to seeing the huge display of fireworks, but it's never as good online as it is in person.
